The Invisible - London Girl

Though they're being touted as the British TV On the Radio-- along with the, per usual, ad nauseam Radiohead comparisons-- the immediate contemporary touchstones for the Invisible's debut single "London Girl", a track of disco lineage and techy undercurrents, are more akin to groups like LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip. The TVOTR comparisons are readily apparent: lead singer Dave Okumu's swooning vocals' often uncanny similarity to that of Tunde Adebimpe, indie-prog atmospherics, and genre-blurring experimentation.

The Roots covern auf diesem Tape verschiedene Dilla Beats. Sehr schön anzuhören, auch wenn Roots-MC Black Thought nicht mit von der Partie ist. Die Beats wurden neu interpretiert, jedoch verlieren sie nie die Handschrift der Originale.
Eine gelungene Hommage an den verstorbenen J Dilla. Zum Geniessen!

One half of the Cosa nostra duo which now boasts the likes of soul vocalist Miss Mic and guitarist Mr Moon, the Funk Bastard has been tirelessly pushing and promoting an alternative expression of leftfield music through his widely eclectic, genre-bending sets.

The danceandsoul website has been listed on STRAIGHT NO CHASER'S as one of THE sites to visit and it is no surprise when one hears his musical selection which traverses between a huge variety of musical genres, be it deep jazz, soul, funk, boogie, brazilian grooves, house, hip hop or any other assorted cosmic beats. His unique sets have taken him around the region and has played alongside the likes of Recloose, Jazzanova, Koop, Dj Lefto, Quasimode, Yukihiro Fukutomi, Nik Weston, Russ Dewbury at the legendary JAZZROOMS in Brighton and many others.

Ventures into production with partner Kaye has led to the formation of the Cosa Nostra project and their tracks has been charted and played on the airwaves around the globe on shows like Beyondjazz, milkaudio (Canada), BlackandBlue (Perth/Australia), Stylin' radio show (Melbourne/Australia), Department Deluxe radio show (Germany) and Basic soul radio show (UK). Their most recent remix for Italian jazz outfit, IDEA 6 has been released in Japan, alongside a stellar cast of remixers including 7 Samurai, Gerado Frisina, Nicola Conte and Quasimode. Most recently, Cosa Nostra was one of the few locally chosed outfits to have played in Gilles Peterson's Worldwide festival in Singapore.

The Creative Swing Alliance consist of the 2 producers Pablo Valentino and Steven-J. Pablo is responsible for the Faces Records label & his recent subdivision called Motor City Drum Ensemble. Steven-J released records on Compost Records, Soultronik & Jazzmin and played double bass for the japanese jazz band “Sleepwalker”. They both come from the city of Strasbourg FR, shared turntables & droped parties for more than 10 years together.

The concept for the CSA Project was very simple: They locked themselves for one week in Pablo's attic to work 7 days on 7 tracks all named after the days of the week. Bonzzaj Records selected for this 12" their 3 favourite tracks:

On “Monday” Pablo and Steven-J created a heavy opener for their project. Bumpy they riding their MPC with a deep diving bass and wonderful synths. Simbad turned the original “Monday” into a heavyweight soulful dancefloor filler mashed with good old West-London Broken Beats. An essential DJ weapon!

Naturally within the week you can hear some different moods while other friends/artists where passing in the studio...for example on "Thursday", when Kira Neris joined the Alliance to create a spaced-out and captivating disco journey with a wonderful soul sample.

Last but not least, “Saturday”: dusty old jazz records and beat generation hip hop for the b-boys and b-girls! RAW! Strong stuff for fans of Bullion, Onra, the Linkwood Family, etc!

Was eigentlich schon lange wärt, klingt dennoch nicht verjährt, zu frisch klingen die Tracks des wiederbelebten Genres. Cosmische Synths, verhallte Handclaps, deepe Basslines und treibende Beats, das sind wohl die Markenzeichen dieser Musik, bei der auch die Bernerin Princess P leidenschaftlich wird. das ist ja mal wieder ein ordentlich dreckiger release. mag diese mixtur an deep-broken-disco-house. dieser immer wieder einsetzende wobble-bass am anfang bei an orange dripping is der shit - und wird dann extrem deep mit den synth-flächen drehts in ne komplett andere richtung. ten to twelve schiebt ja extrem an, ne ordentliche peak-time nummer. dieses break bei gut 5min ist der oberhammer. mag sehr, wie sich die nummer aufbaut. gut so aardvarck hat sich auch mal wieder ordentlich ins zeug gelegt mit diesen dreckig versetzem bassdrum-snare-gefrickel. raw! mir fällt es schwer, die beste nummer zu charakterisieren. geht irgendwie nicht, weil jede seinen eigenen charme mitbringt. zuerst hätt ich gesagt, chicago gefällt mir am wenigsten, aber irgendwie geht das auch nicht :-D also ich würd ganz klar 8-9 von 10 daumen heben. ganz grosses ding. ausrufezeichen.

Aftertheir great debut “Motzbaz/Indeed” on AFAO Recordings and the following12inches “hello kool nice” and “Langenthal EP” on QuintessentialsRecordings, which found its way into the bags and charts of DJs likeQuarion, Laurent Garnier, Jimpster and many more, JAGGED strikes backwith a 12” on Bonzzaj Recordings. This single also contains a hot remixby the dutch multi-talented man Aardvarck, one half of the RednoseDistrict. Jagged’s productions are restrained and minimal in the rightway - they doesn’t let things get overloaded. They focuses mainly onstraight beats and functional house music but always with the rightingredient of soul and rawness. The title track “Ten to twelve” is aheavy cut with a lot of disco influences, funky basslines, coolhouse-grooves and surprising changes all over the track. The Remix of“Ten to Twelve” comes from Aardvarck, who releases on Rushhour, KindredSpirits and Delsin. He transformed the original in an broken beatstomper, which sounds like it emerged straight out of Londons Co-Op.The B-Side contains “Chicago", a deep house number with forward goingpercussions, warm strings, oldscool-house-vocals and a slight acidflavour and last but not least the track “An orange drippin”, whichtakes you with it’s deep synth, percussions, basslines, bells andthings in the deeper Shades of…Jagged Nation. Hot shit – Gesundheit!

Bonzzaj Recordings & A Few Among Others Records started off with their first 7” a few months ago and kept the formula also this time pretty simple....quality music and limited edition.
SIDE HUSTLE is a Hip-Hop project that started via the "virtual" meeting of producer „Ianeq“ and rapper „Thaddeus Clark“ through e-mail. Working solely via the internet, the two pro musicians
exchanged files, mp3's and waves over the Atlantic for two years. „Second Intro“ has a definite flavor of their own, thanks to modern production techniques inherited from Ianeq's House and Techno alter ego, Quarion. The result is fresh and exciting, although one could notice a certain melancholy in the music. This is probably what inspired Thaddeus Clark to focus his lyrics on childhood and teenage memories: the Oakland region (which he originates from), School, first love emotions, the discovery and passion for Old-School Hip-Hop…all these themes are the cornerstones of SIDE HUSTLE and give a very strong identity to the project.
The B-Side which could be definitely also an A-Side features once again Bonzzaj’s warhorse and multi-instrumentalist André Seiler aka NEMOY. Even though „Flywheel“ is a combination of danceable beats with a rich african musical content. Made with the dancefloor in mind, Nemoy's horn section and percussion blaze into gear after a noisy short intro and the track never lets up. This nasty B-side from this one-man-afrobeat-band sounds amazing on either iPod or in the club.
